Principal’s Message

Dear Students, Families, and Staff,

Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! I am thrilled to begin another exciting year together as the proud Principal of our incredible Poet TK–8 learning community. As we turn the page and look ahead, I want to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable accomplishments of our students and staff over the past year.

Last year, our students demonstrated outstanding growth both academically and socially. From impressive gains in ELA, Math, and Science to heartfelt community events, our students inspired us daily with their curiosity, determination, and kindness. Our staff and parent community went above and beyond to create an engaging school, build strong relationships, and support the diverse needs of all learners. We also celebrated our arts, athletics, and enrichment programs, which continued to thrive and develop thanks to the dedication of our teachers and the enthusiasm of our students.

As we build on this momentum, one of our top priorities for the 2025–2026 school year is to emphasize the importance of consistent attendance. Every day a student is in school is a day filled with opportunities for connection, learning, and growth. In fact, research from the University of Chicago’s Consortium on School Research has shown that attendance is a stronger predictor of academic success than test scores, teacher quality, or socioeconomic status. Regular attendance supports not only academic achievement but also the development of critical social-emotional skills and a strong connection to the school community.

We know that life happens, and occasional absences are sometimes unavoidable. However, we also know that every day counts. When students are present, they don’t just keep up—they thrive. Our goal this year is to partner with families to ensure that all students are at school, on time, and ready to learn each day. Together, we can create a culture where showing up every day is celebrated and supported.

Let’s make 2025–2026 our best year yet—full of learning, growth, and shared success. Here’s to a strong start and a joyful journey ahead!

With gratitude and excitement,

Albert Strong, Principal
