Welcome to Poet-Christian K-8 School!

Poet-Christian is a wonderful school community.  We have terrific students, supportive families, and a dedicated staff.  This is my 20th year at Poet and I have enjoyed working with a huge number of families and students over the years.  Our PTSA and staff works hard to provide our students with a variety of activities, events, and programs.  It is always great to see students and families participating in school functions.  These activities help us build strong bonds and enable us to maintain a positive and supportive learning environment.

Staff Retirements and Goodbyes

We have a couple of staff members who are retiring this year.  I know that when they both started over 30 years ago, they never would have pictured an ending quite like this!

Ms. Yasemsky has been teacher and leaders in the district for 34 years!  She’s taught at Villalovoz, Hirsch, and Poet in 5th, 7th and 8th grade.  She was also honored as D.A.R.E Teacher of the year, Sow A Seed Mentor of the Year, TUSD Teacher of the Year, and County of San Joaquin Teacher of the year.  She’s had an amazing career and impacted the lives of hundreds of students and educators over the years.  We will miss her dearly!

Ms. Ernest has been teaching for 40 years and has taught Spanish as a Second Language, Kindergarten, 2nd/3rd combo, 3rd/4th combo, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 8th grade.  Ms. Ernest was a Mentor Teacher, a BTSA Support Provider for new teachers,  PAR Support Provider, and Instructional Coach.  She has been an amazing force in education and she will be missed!!!

Mrs. Evans is leaving us this year as well.  She has been an incredible teacher and has left a lasting mark on our school and community.  She is moving on to continue her love of writing and to build on the success of her book writing career.  She’s an amazing teacher and writer and we are grateful for her time at Poet.

We are also losing another fabulous member of our team - Ms. Bradley.   Ms. Bradley is taking on a new challenge as the Assistant Principal at Monte Vista Middle School.  Ms. Bradley has done an amazing job at both Hirsch and Poet for the past few years.  She’s has done a tremendous job of working with students, families, and staff members at both schools.  Monte Vista is very lucky to have her on their team.  We will miss her and we wish her the best in her new position.

Have A Great Summer!

Hello Poet Families,

To say this was a strange ending to the year would be an understatement.  In my 29 years of education, I have never seen anything quite like this!  In all of this chaos, I really miss the interactions with the Poet community the most.  I miss seeing, hearing and talking with the kids around school – especially my 1st grade paper airplane crew.  I miss the conversations with parents at car line and in school.  I miss working with the teachers and staff on a daily basis.  Education is people-oriented business and it’s been challenging trying to continue the process of educating our students without the people (all of you!) here at school.

We are in uncharted territory in a lot of ways and we are still trying to figure out what the future holds.  At this point, we don’t know how or what school will look like in the fall.  While I’m hopeful that school will resemble something closer to “normal” in the fall, it is possible that it will look like something else entirely.  Our District is currently working on a few contingency plans for next year depending on the recommendations from the Federal Government, the CDC, Governor Newsom, and other health professionals.   Regardless of the direction we end up travelling, understand that we will adjust our sails and do the best we can for our students and families. Take care and stay healthy!

Mr. Maslyar
